SCRIPTURE

Romans 2:6-16

SUMMARY

Salvation is by works. Paul says, “There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek." Yet it is not our works that save us, but the works of Another—Jesus Christ, who was patient in well-doing and earned ‘glory and honor and immortality,’ ‘eternal life,’ and ‘peace’ for us. For thirty-three years he was perfectly patient in well-doing, earning a perfect record for us. Then, on Calvary he received the ‘wrath and fury’ and ‘tribulation and distress’ we deserve” (Elyse Fitzpatrick). By faith in Him are we saved.

In your CG this week, talk about faith in Jesus. Spend time with this week’s Scriptures below and reflect with the following questions and prompts. Allow the Scriptures to grow in you an even greater dependence on Christ—the righteous.

SCRIPTURES:

M: Romans 2:6-16 T: Romans 1:16-17 W: 1 Peter 1:3-9 TH: Romans 3:23-26

HEAR AND OBEY:
Read 1 Peter 1:7. What is it that results in praise and glory and honor?

CONFESS:
Do you believe that salvation is completely by faith in Jesus or do you try to contribute to your salvation? Confess how you sinned and fell short of the glory of God this last week*…you know…just to keep you from thinking you’re righteous in yourself. Confess how you are completely dependent on Jesus for “glory, honor, and peace.”
*
If you need help pinpointing sin, read through Matthew 5:21-48.

PRAY:
Pray Romans 1:16-17. Thank God for the righteousness we have in Jesus. Ask for God to destroy any confidence in yourself for salvation and for complete confidence in Christ. Pray for your lost friends who do not know Jesus.
